Root-Cause vs. Symptom

“Treat the root-cause not the symptom.”

In the holistic medicine field, the term “root-cause” is often thrown around. Today I would like to take a moment to explain what the word root-cause means and how this type of approach differs from symptom treatment.

The term “root-cause” means as it sounds, it is the root or the fundamental/primary cause of a condition. For example, if someone is experiencing dizziness, taking a root-cause approach means finding the reason for that dizziness. This means we are not going to mask the dizziness with a short-term solution because it then has the opportunity to continue or become worse. Instead, we are on a mission to find out why that client is experiencing the dizziness. This approach sounds like common sense, but unfortunately much of the Western medical industry is built on the idea of symptom treatment.

At Thrive, we look for the root-cause of symptoms so that a client can have the reason for their symptoms as well as an action plan as to how to eliminate the root-cause from their body.

Let’s look at an example:

As you can see from the example above, if the practitioner simply treated the symptom with Advil, the migraine would likely return and increase in intensity overtime as the volume of the plastic toxin load increased. This is why it is imperative that if your body is sending symptoms AKA signals that your body needs support, we listen.

Do you relate to this client with having frequent migraines? What other symptoms do you experience - chronic fatigue, restlessness, high blood pressure, nausea, decreased appetite, etc.? Reach out to us today so that we can help you find the root-cause to your symptoms and to ultimately banish them for good!
